Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Hi, I've been looking at ssds for cyber monday - I recognize a lot of the brands, but not fikwot. Their 2tb m.2 was on sale for $85, and it claims the read and write speeds are ~7000mb/sec. Is this safe and reliable? Can I go with this ssd, or should I go with a more reliable brand? The ssd in question is the fikwot fn955. Thank you.

Note: I noticed that this brand is newer, I can't find any amazon reviews older than mid-2022.

So, $85/2TB isn't even that good of a price, I'll raise this by one more level.

I was looking to populate a flash NAS with 4TB M.2s, and 2 non-brand SSDs came up during Amazon's BF sale at around $138-$145. I ended up picking a set of Teamgroup MP34s at $151. Basically, for a few bucks more, I'm buying a peace of mind on a real company. The fact that you did some basic research and cannot find a history with this company should raise the red flag for you. Are you really willing to bet data security for possibly years, on saving less than $10?
