I agree with you, I think the market has become so saturated with content that producers are either going with cringe reality shows, or period/crime drama for ratings, with not much in between.
I grew up in 70/80s UK and we had the likes of The Good Life, Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served, Hi-de-Hi and countless others sitcoms. Sure, some of the content from those years wouldn't pass the respect test these days, but they were part of life at the time.
