We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

I've only had 1 WD drive fail on me, and no Toshibas (some of which are going on 6 years running). I have had multiple prior Seagate failures, but have heard they have supposedly gotten better. I also do not like some of the "shady" things that WD has been consistently doing. I have read reports that the Toshiba's tend to be louder, and that there can be issues with the warranty.
I ordered a Toshiba N300 PRO, so we'' see how it does and I'll check out the warranty before anything.
