Fish & chips for me. Usually Miller St is jumping at this hour with people getting pizza or f&c. Tonight was dead. Zillions of empty car parks and the f&c shop people were filing their nails and scrolling on their phones. The cost of living is starting to bite down hard I think. Mind you, $18 for 1 piece of fish, 1 scallop, 1 prawn, 1 fishcake and a handful of chips is getting a bit steep for regular purchase.
I used to looove fish n chips but it's getting pricey for me and my family of four/five (we live with my MIL and sometimes she eats with us). It cost $110 last time I got it.
It’s not really a cheap takeaway option any more, is it?
No. And there aren't many left! A family of 4 is going to cost a minimum amount to feed when we eat out/take out, I get that. But all of our usual favourites have skyrocketed in price such that it's got me really pulling the reigns on it.
It’s also not like you can reheat the food to finish it the next day either. Reheated chips are gross.
Preheat oven to 180° C
Put chips and whatever else is left over in a colander and rinse them under the tap, toss so that they get evenly wet. Then give a good shake to get rid of loose water. Optionally spray lightly with oil.
spread on a tray in a single layer. Put the tray in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. The water dries off and makes everything crisp and crunchy.
This has totally changed the nature of leftover f’n’c. Arguably better as leftovers.
I might try this, thanks!
