Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Anyone feel as they’re gaining popularity they’re increasing prices along with it?

I hesitated to buy the 20tb exos from Newegg due to poor shipping protection but SPD has 6 refurb-only items on sale while most items stayed the same price.

"free 2 day shipping and best in class packaging"

2-day shipping is nothing special.

Best-in-class packaging... I mean, it's packaging. It either protects the drive or it doesn't. Neither of those are something to use as a marketing tool.

Also, looked at some Seagates and it's actually higher than the typical price I've seen the entire last several months. Can get a new X20 for $269 currently from Newegg; it's $319 on SPD... even a recertified is $220. If you're buying like 10 of them, sure, the recertified might be worthwhile. But 1-2, I'd pay the $49 extra to get a brand new one.

Disappointing is an understatement. There aren't any deals, it's just trying to sell stuff at a higher price than it usually is.
