Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

help identifying switch wiring (alien.top)

Trying to identify the wires in a old apartment building switch to install a smart switch.

Currently only two wires are connected, the red and another one.

I pulled out the other two wires out of the box and tested with touchless electrical tester with light on. No signal. Only signal to the two wires connected to the swithch.

Be really careful with those antique cloth covered wires. The cloth insulation can start to fall apart very easily and leave exposed wire when you try and push it back in. Judging by the one wrapped in electrical tape that might have already started to happen though it might have been done to mark one wire as a hot lead.
