I really don't know if him signing a new contract was the right play here.
Following the Caicedo saga one would think he did include the release clause in his contract.
There is no release clause in the contract. Also, I dont really get this point. It wouldn't have been much of a saga if Chelsea just paid the asking price Brighton set at the start of the summer. In fact, that would have ended up saving Chelsea some money lol
Tbf it was essentially a 1 year extension which surely netted him more money
Idk anything about football negotiations, but in my mind there is absolutely 0 difference between a 2027 or 2028 contract when it comes to negotiating
