Wondering what people's suggestions would be should I get the current gen i7 or last gen i9?

Primarly use my pc for gaming a bit of video editing + work but when I upgrade my pc again in hopefully 5+ years I put the CPU, motherboard and memory into my home server that I use for my lab.

i9 is £460 i7 is £420

Just throwing this out there but is a 14700k worth an extra $100 over a 12900k? Going by microcenter deals btw.

I’d go with the newer CPU over the older one, so 14700K.

Yes, it definitely does. There's a big difference in cache between those and there are some other core enhancements. So 14700K being has essentially faster cores and 8+8 vs 8+12 don't tell you the whole story.

People would choose 13600K over 12900K even if the i9 is cheaper than the i5 due do that.

4 more cores, 2 generations up, more ram utilization, yes.
