Hi everyone,

I'm currently setting up a new system with an AMD Threadripper 2920X and a GIGABYTE X399 AORUS Gaming 7 motherboard. I'm planning to run the Proxmox, TrueNAS, development workloads (AI frameworks - TensorFlow/PyTorch), and various other containers. Given the nature of my setup, I believe I would greatly benefit from ECC RAM, especially for ZFS & data integrity.

However, I'm struggling to find ECC RAM modules that have confirmed compatibility with my CPU & motherboard. The motherboards QVL manual list 7 compatible ECC RAM modules. The Official CPU documentation seems to have been removed or well hidden.

  1. What are some reliable brands or specific models you would recommend?
  2. Should I prioritize higher speeds, or is capacity more important in this context?

Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I prefer Micron/Crucial, but DDR4 ECC UDIMMs are getting harder to find as the world has moved on to DDR5

For TrueNAS, more RAM is always better
