Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Ok looking to increase my home media center drive from 4TB to either 14TB or 18TB.

There is the Seagate 14TB drive for $150 (apparently next week) https://www.costco.com/seagate-14tb-expansion-desktop-hard-drive.product.4000203297.html (~$10.7/TB)

And then there is the WD Easystore 18TB for $200 https://www.costco.com/seagate-14tb-expansion-desktop-hard-drive.product.4000203297.html (~$11.1/TB)

I don't necessarily need 18TB so I'm slightly leaning towards the 14TB but curious if these drives are any good or not.

Any input or advice?

WD makes better drives than Seagate. Had a ton of Seagate failures over the years
