Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

Forgive the ignorance.

I wanted to get 1 hub and then populate the rest of the house with Echo Dots/Shows to group for Multi Room.

Ideally the HUB is also a great speaker (like Sonos One) but if not I could spend that money on the Wiim and upgrade speakers later.

But would the Sonos even work in this capacity??

For context, I'm looking to :

  • play music through Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, TuneIn etc.
  • potentially be able to play from my own iOS music library (as in NOT Apple Music subscription) and have that all over the house.
  • eventually i might add a vinyl player but that's not an immediate need
  • for all the above I would like the main speaker to be very good

I'm trying to do it cheaply, in case that's not obvious.

I'm sure this has been answered, but all my searching and I still don't feel like I have seen a definitive "yes/no" and now I'm just confused. (Can't take the time for Plex or the more complicated choices)

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

sonos will not work with dots/shows. sonos multiroom does only work with other sonos devices.

other than that, sonos can do all you need, even vinyl. but it ain’t cheap

Thanks. The “ain’t cheap” part is definitely the issue!-)
