I have a LSI 1GB 9270-8i and all the features enabled to make Raid fast. When I bent the battery cable and ordered a replacement, the newer 2/4/8GB controllers on the market caught my eye. Let's say I have 4 x 10TB enterprise 7200 rpm drives and want to measure performance of Raid5 and we can test Raid10 and why not Raid0 for good measure too. Will it matter much to upgrade to a larger cache controller? Yes I backup the whole thing to another computer. I'm mostly copying movies or games to the virtual disk, have my Steam library on there, do a little photo editing like sorting for favorites and minor touchups, nothing too crazy like a database or major movie production or anything but just want to know is it worthwhile to upgrade in this scenario? Will I go wow the next time I copy a TB over or will I see no real added benefit?

You need more RAM

If you can't put in enough RAM to get the performance you want, then you need faster drives
