Home automation is the residential extension of building automation.

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

Hello all,

I recently moved to a house that has an old IDS805 alarm system. It kind of works but of course if the siren is activated while I am not in the house, good luck getting notified that somebody is in. Looking at the manual of the alarm I see it has some 'programmable outputs'. The output goes from 0 to 12V for 3 seconds when the alarm is activated and then goes back to 0V. Now I am thinking I could use a zigbee or zwave device that detects that pulse (i have both networks running independently of the alarm) and notifies me. What kind of a device I should be looking for ? I prefer zigbee but any of them would be fine.

I use a Sonoff SV just for that, it got two inputs, using one as sensor for "Armed" and one for "Alarm triggered".
The one relay output is used to turn the alarm on or off remotely.
