Cats don't stay as kittens. This can be a 12+ year commitment. Please do not get a cat at this stage of your life- Wait until you are more settled.
May I respectfully submit Gerbils, who are non-biting rodents that are easy to keep? They are kept alone or only with raised-together siblings, and must be separated if there is any fighting causing any injury between them. Gerbils are kept in fish tanks filled with gerbil appropriate dry bedding, musn't get wet, and dig beautiful tunnels. With good food they can live up to 5 years as I have experienced, but most gerbils do live shorter lives than that even when well kept.
No cages with bars, no introduction of gerbils together, no unsupervised play. And in your situation of uncertainty, your reasons for wanting this, your being young, my request is that you do not get a cat who will likely become an adoption animal in the future. Cats can be extremely loving and attached, require lots of attention and stability in their lives, and do not react well to changes and often not to new people.
Not the answer OP wanted, but the answer they needed.
