Isn't that the point of the whole communities structure though? That you have some common topic to talk about, rather than just exchanging small-talk?
For me, the people I'd talk to on Reddit were mostly internet strangers anyway, so my mindset is that this place is no different :) Different website, but still just fellow human beings at the end of the day.
Sure. The problem I have is not that. But part of that yes. I don't have my kdramas subreddit here or my Xianxia sub to talk shit about Chinese fantasy martial arts novels. I don't think the niches will reach here any time soon. I only have the big subs I never participated in anyway to talk about meta stuff, photos, videos, news and normie memes. It's okay though. I always find something interesting to browse and comment on. It's more of a difficulty than an impossibility.
