Well akschually it's even worse/better?
Because crusade is on the list of cards, banned for being "racist or culturally offensive"
Other cards on this list are:
Invoke Prejudice
Cleanse
Stone-Throwing Devils
Pradesh Gypsies
Jihad
Imprison
This is starting to get ridiculous.
If we were to be true purists to any and every cultural creation, because the author had some bad viewpoint, we'd have to throw out 3/4 of it.
Better to take hold of the creation and subvert whatever subtext the author intended it to have.
p.s
Took a look at the cards and can't see where is the offensive content.
Not attempting to turn anything into anything else; just being honest.
None of those cards have imagery that make me report to anything resembling nazism, so I'm truly baffled of where is the triggering.
I played MTG a long time ago and that was what it was: a game based on fictional imagery.
Those hooded figures were standard fare for executioners in comic books, books and films with medieval setting when I was growing up. It takes precedence over a half dozen sideways pop culture references I only got later in my life.
And as a curiosity: that pointed hood is still used in some religious processions in Italy today.
Early magic was a hoot.
