KUALA LUMPUR: A video of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living deputy minister Fuziah Salleh buying household groceries with a RM200 budget has drawn criticism from netizens.

In the one minute 36 second video, the deputy minister was seen buying groceries such as biscuits, instant noodles, sardines, flour and cooking oil.

Rm200 per what? Day? Week? Month? That's about a week's worth of food for a single person.

"I bought two packs of biscuits, a 850 gram Milo pack, two packs of instant noodles, two cans of sardines, two packs of flour, a bottle of cooking oil, a bag of rice, chicken, condensed milk and several vegetables. All of these items cost me RM136.30, who said that RM200 is not enough?" she said.

People can easily point out what's missing in her grocery list, like eggs, bread, milk, non-food items. The bag of rice and cooking oil should last the longest in a household, but I can imagine finishing a 5 kg bag of rice in a week especially when cooked for lunch and dinner.

The keywords are "family" and "household", so it's definitely not meant to feed a single person. We need examples of a weekly grocery receipt that reflect the real consumption of a family.
