The filmed West End stage musical The Prince of Egypt will be released on BroadwayHD on November 15, and available to buy or rent on digital from December 5.

The theatrical version of the DreamWorks animated film, The Prince of Egypt was filmed live at London’s Dominion Theatre before its run ended in January 2022. The show features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Philip LaZebnik. Schwartz has penned 10 new songs to join his original five from the 1998 film.

Leading the cast are Luke Brady (Moses), Liam Tamne (Ramses), Christine Allado (Tzipporah), Alexia Khadime (Miriam), Joe Dixon (Seti), Debbie Kurup (Tuya), Oliver Lidert (Jethro), Mercedesz Csampai (Yocheved), Adam Pearce (Hotep), Nardia Ruth (Nefertari), and Silas Wyatt-Barke (Aaron).

It's great to have the chance to see this production. I've been fortunate to have seen two different stage productions of The Prince of Egypt - one in Silicon Valley (which I think this London one might be based on, as both were directed by Scott Schwartz, Stephen Schwartz's son), and one in Copenhagen. If the West End production is basically the Silicon Valley production with a different cast, then I think I would have preferred to see the Danish production filmed, as it was visually more spectacular. (I guess I'll find out when I see the video.) The show doesn't quite entirely work for me, for reasons I won't bother getting into, but there's a lot to commend in it, including what I think is Stephen Schwartz's best song, "When You Believe".
