I still don't get why it was so easy for Matrix to overshadow XMPP as an IRC successor.
If XMPP already did federation and all the advanced stuff that people expect from modern chat platform, then why did it not become more poular? It was even basis for Google's chat (Hangouts or whatever the first chat thing withing Gmail was) and for the first Facebook chat if I am not
Tell me about it. But /u/nutomic and crew, and even the kbin devs are sold on matrix so we're on our own here
Having tried both, I think matrix apps are a bit easier to use. You can migrate your encryption keys around and join chats from new apps without having to deal with signatures.
Also, maybe the "wow, a new app!" factor helped a lot
