I suppose it's not surprising that some audience members would want to sing-along to high-energy jukebox shows like Moulin Rouge which feature well known songs (or, in the case of Moulin Rouge, snippets of well known songs). Personally I would find this to be extremely aggravating, but reserving certain performances where this is permitted and encouraged (although only for certain songs) is a nice way of handling the situation. The London production of Bat out of Hell a few years ago had signs in the lobby asking audience members not to sing along, but also scheduled special sing-along performances where fans could unleash their inner Meatloafs. (Meatloaves?)
