Not to discourage piracy but GIMP is better lol
GIMP I don't think is really better by any metric except it's being free. As far as Photoshop alternatives go, I'm not sure which if any are actually decent for photo editing, but if you're using it as an art program, Krita is pretty good
GIMP is great and all, but it’s got nothing on some of the modern features of Photoshop.
I've used both but prefer Photoshop also the adrenaline rush of wondering whether I'll have to re install windows after downloading a possibly virus infested installer is too good
Psst rutracker
Yes that feeling when you get the defender pop up but still go ahead with executing the binary is terrible and great at the same time
Rightt I love it the pay off of it being virus free is also sooo good
Have you ever used gimp? This is objectively false
I have used GIMP for more than half my entire life, I have also used Photoshop quite a lot due to my school handing out free licenses since forever back but I strongly prefer GIMP, especially with my own customizations.
I've been using Photoshop for like a decade and have at various times tried using Gimp as well to see if the free competition is better. Pretty much every time I'm struck with how many features it is lacking and how bad the performance is... it was getting less than 10 fps just trying to edit a regular sized image. I'm sure with years of experience I could become good enough at gimp to handle the same tasks as Photoshop but the learning curve is so steep just to learn a program that nobody else I'm collaborating with is using.
In my opinion, the real Photoshop competition is something like Affinity photo/designer-- no subscription fee, great support, and UX that is actually nice.
Oof! Yeah, bad performance is not fun. I haven't had performance issues myself but that's definitely gonna be a turn off if you're experiencing that.
Also, if you're working with other people using Photoshop I can see how that might lead to issues. The PSD export from GIMP has been enough to cover my use cases, as the people I work with usually use GIMP as well but I can see how someone very integrated in that ecosystem could miss features.
UI wise, I can also agree that GIMP by default is a bit lacking in current releases, specifically when it comes to system integration, but this is much better in the beta version with an updated UI toolkit.
less than 10fps? jesus
is gimp super slow on windows/mac? cause it never had performance issues on linux for me
the GIMP hate is completely overblown imo
