Okay so once in a while I reckon we could do with some local content.
What is your favourite suburban Melbourne road to drive down (at legal or typically expected speed limits) and go WHEEEEEE?
I get my kicks from Reynolds Road Templestowe. Up and down and not much traffic for the size of the road... wheeeeeeeeeee
The Western Hwy past Bacchus Marsh. 110 on the highway with the music full blast.
My favourite suburban street that I love is my own. Turning into my driveway. Bliss.
I wish I could feel the same about the street I live on, it's cramped and narrow and bleak and full of confused big cars. And one way only. I definitely used to feel a sense of warmth and relief turning into my suburb and road at my last place, though.
Oh that's sad. At least you get to cat sit some lovely kitties.
The hairpin(ish) bend in Yarra Boulevard ain't bad. Probs most scenic, twisty road that close to the city.
I vote for Yarra blvd, too. An interesting drive and beautiful view
that dip coming outta atkinson across the princes. Weeeee!
I confess to know very little about the SE but since I'll be in the general-ish area for a month I must definitely add this to the list when I check out Oakleigh.
best approached from the chaddy side (where the leighoak is). Just the right combination of speed and slope to get a wee bit of air time if you dont' have to stop at the lights.
On the motorbike:
In the car:
Old Geelong Road when its empty late at night makes me feel like a race car driver with all its roundabouts and wide turns.
Sadly the only time I've been on it was when it was clogged for over a km but west side definitely has some sweet roads for fanging it off peak.
Aviation Road and that Werribee South area are pretty cool too. I would always fang it down Point Cook Homestead Road when going to the place I was housesitting last month.
Power St. No question. When you hit the tram tracks and are momentarily airborne ....
Kew boulevard.. not technically suburban though. That is my fave of all time.
Edit hangon you meant down.. Studley park road heading into the city 5am.
Studley Park Rd is definitely a runner up (and more accessible) for me, that view coming downhill is amazing and it's always so chill compared to the hectic nature of Bridge Rd or Barkers Rd. I even love coming back out of the city, leaving behind the fun times of Johnston St into peace and quiet
The last bit of Humphries Rd towards Moorooduc Highway is very “wheee”. I’m sure this is meaningless to anybody here lol.
Intersection at Waurn Ponds. Feels like you get some air if you get the lights. Felt the same back in '87 too.
I've never been out that way but it looks like delicious set of loops. Can see how it would be a very wheeeee location.
