Classic pub Sunday roast lunch is exactly what we’re after, just on a Saturday (that’s the day my FIL wants to go out for his birthday).

Can only speak for the inner norf, but the Croxton Hotel does one - fairly basic but cheap. The Junction Hotel on the border of Preston also does quite a good one I'm told but I haven't tried it yet. Both places are on the 86 tramline - about 30 mins from the CBD maybe a bit less on weekends. Quite good parking at the Junction - well good for Preston. Short trip from there to the Preston market after or before lunch too. The Camden Town Hotel in Caulfield South used to do a very good one, but that was pre-covid but might be worth investigating - 64 tramline. The roast was usually on their specials board. Haven't been there since covid but worth calling them to see if the roast is still a thing.
