Nah, there's no subtle joke you're missing here. They're a bunch of right wing hacks pretending that mocking the concept of being trans and dredging up old conservative boogey(wo)men and conspiracy theories is the epitome of cleverness π
I read it, you sure it ainβt satire? It just sounds like the conservative Onion
It's trying to be that, but to be satire it needs to be a reflection of something, usually in an absurdist kind of way. But this is so detached from anything, I can't even think of a way to rewrite it to make more sense since I don't even know what they're talking about. Are they suggesting that California rules too many things as suicide? Are they suggesting that deaths due to storms are under reported? Or, and this is a stretch but this is Babylon bee we're talking about, could this be an even dumber version of their One Joke with the stance of "my hurricane death identifies as a suicide"? Nothing would surprise me, but I'm not sure I'll ever know what the intent of this was.
Agreed. Conservatives really struggle with creating comedy of anyj8 kind. Their humor tends to rely on creating a perspective based on entirely false, unrealistic scenarios that just feel hollow given anything more than cursory attention.
They try to be witty and biting about the crazy shit they come up with that doesn't actually exist, like the war on Christmas (the only ones fighting the war are them), or the danger of trans people (who are statistically harmless compared to good ole'white Christian cis-men).
Good comedy is (usually) rooted in reality, referencing situations or scenarios that reflect the actual world around us, giving the consumer something they can relate to or at least understand. Comedy that's not rooted in a little truth can be very hard to pull off, as evidenced by stand up comedy flops like Crowder and "satire" sites like the OP.
Conservatism hinges on a persecution complex. They can't make comedy because every attempt comes off as whiny fearmongering about a fabricated scenario or perpetrator. What an anxiety-riddled, miserable way to trudge through life with.
I always wonder if they must be just exhausted all the time from the faux outrage and constant gaslighting. What a way to go through life.
Yeah, it calls itself satire, but it's satire for conservatives which is so unfunny and heavy-handed as to hardly even count..
