Colorado’s Black Bear Pass remains closed after “ass clown” drivers got stuck, sheriff says
(www.denverpost.com)
A place for ex-pats from the Denver Post comment section (closing down in July), as well as people that want to discuss Denver Post articles in general.
It’s almost as if using a closed social media platform that requires an account to see content to disseminate important warnings is an “ass clown” move
What is a viable alternative? Mastodon sure isn’t.
Twitter has been used by public works organizations to announce things like this for a while. The new restrictions make it worse for that application, but something new has yet to be found.
Most people don’t get local specific news anymore.
Honestly, I'm not sure what the answer is, but I don't know that expecting that people have to find out this kind of info via a Nazi website like X is the answer.
Indeed. People and institutions that even yet still cling to things like "X" are indicating who and what they are, too.
You give these people far too much credit - most were slow to uptake social media and they still barely understand it. Drama surrounding ownership of the platform and changes to internal policies around moderation goes far over their heads and they post to Twitter/X because they've been told to for years and it's now a part of their process. No hosting needed on their side, no webmaster, etc just an employee who can tweet or post using some CRM system that defaults to the normal big social media players
