Dear Friends,

went to our local cemetery to tend an ancient ancestor, well just my gran actually. The grave was full of earth, few months ago seeded with meadow wild flowers. Now cornflowers and others are blooming. Sadly much of the high grassland they will spread to was being mowed with petrol strimmers.

Find the corners of earth, I live in a metro area and will continue seeding as the wind blows …

Yes! Wildflower patches can help insects and other critters by being a "stepping stone" in a biological desert. Your cornflowers may be helping our little friends more than you think!

I have a tiny apartment balcony, but every year I do a planting box of wildflowers and let them go crazy. Even way up here on the 10th floor I usually have visitors, but this year there hasn't been a single one. Only flies.

Sorry to hear only flies. I have a tiny 30’ garden patch. The flies arrive first, then the bees, then butterflies (if lucky) couple of months ago it was little blues but hoping for others …

The grave patch I am very pleased with and hopeful for a spreading effect …

Planting box sounds like something us urbanites can manage. Do you have access to a flat roof? We have a slate roof on our outside loo … thinking of flattening and growing moss or some such … for the pixies to play on … 🤔🦋🦞
