MODERATORS

==please incorporate the word rule in your post titles==
Here are the things that get you banned:
-saying anything remotely iffy with a lemmygrad or hexbear account
-tankie behaviour
-nazi behaviour
-authoritarian behaviour
-genocide denial
-prejudice of any kind
-anything else that is clearly bad

Things that get your post/comment removed:
-AI generated content
-anything in the banlist
-posts that are so off topic that they don't fit on 196 at all
-moldy memes (old memes, crusty memes, irrelevant memes. The type of things you'd see on your aunt's Facebook page or Elon musk's Twitter account with a laughing emoji as the caption)
-corpoposting

Ban length varies, and is mostly based off of whether or not I think you will change your behavior. I have baned certain people for upwards of 2000 days.

---------EDIT:NSFW RULES---------
NSFW Content is now fully permitted BUT it must be tagged. Any NSFW content that has not been tagged and blurred will be removed. Content warnings should also be added to the title in brackets. Example: [penis] or: [explicit description of sex].
Non-sexualized breasts of any gender are not considered inappropriate and therefore do not need to be blurred/tagged. Yes, even female breasts.

IRL GORE IS NOT PERMITTED UNDER ANY CONDITION.

maybe consider (temporarily? permanently?) hiding vote-count on posts, to make it seem less dead in here. it doesn't matter how many votes a post has; it just matters whether it's higher or lower than others. for functional reasons, at least.

I don't think that's a good idea. Also, it isn't dead in here by any measure

@moss @gravelsDrachma If its appearance in my masto feed is any indication, it's quite busy! at least by lemmy standards

i'm seeing nine posts in the last hour, and top rated post of all time at 680 upvotes, both figures being below 1/10th of what appear(ed) on the sub.

that's by reddit measure, which is "a" measure, the only one most of us have for reference. i suggested upvote hiding because the reduced count may be discouraging.

they are not bad in themselves, however: if i were, say, moderating this place, I'd say these numbers are too damn high because scary x3. and yes, they're high as hell for general lemmy standards; from everywhere I've looked, that's obvious.

but the "Reddit perspective" is my reasoning for my suggestion, and i think those reasons will fade away anyway as people acclimate to these new figures, much like someone gets used to big numbers being normal on Japanese restaurant menus.

thanks for running this place; i think you're doing a great job of saving some of this culture

I understand where you're coming from, and really appreciate the input but I think people will find it stranger to have no upvotes vs the community just feelig like it's in a budding phase

Personally it would make the community feel more dead if anything. I like to see some engagement over none

I've got vote counts hidden in my UI so things don't feel dead for me, it also helps me resist group think to a varying extent

Just the web (and mobile by extension as I’m using the browser on mobile)

I’m not sure it’s in every instance, but it is on lemm.ee

or we could just all stop caring about the vote count instead! why even pay attention to that? I'd honestly rather have two good comments on a post than 300 upvotes, or view counts, or whatever. couldn't care less about any of those.

I know it’s really hard not to notice the votes on a post or comment, even though I’m not actually looking for it. I do agree with the person you’re replying to that it does make everything feel dead. I just have to regularly remind myself that this isn’t Reddit and the site is growing. Just startling tbh. Going to look at someone’s suggestion for UI that let’s you remove vote counts to see if that helps
