The opposite problem is just as annoying. Someone insisting on explaining everything about the movie as it's happening, and causing me to miss dialogue because they won't shut up. I have eyes, I can watch the movie.

They're both instances of people talking when they shouldn't, so I wouldn't call them opposites.

Or did you think the OP post is calling the replier a jerk? No. The point is that the asker is a moron.

I have an even worse experience that turned me away from ever watching movies with others in the room. Back when movie rentals were a thing and cell phones were new, one of my parents or the other would invariably get called by some random friend or relative, and the movie would be paused while they chatter away for half an hour. That shit continued even in the early days of Netflix. Like, seriously, if you want the family to watch a movie together, TURN OFF YOUR DAMNED PHONE!

I have never encountered this situation. I did not know this was something people did.

I never talk when watching a movie... unless I'm watching it on my own. If I'm on my own I can do the whole "wtf are they doing?" and laugh and swear and pause to get a snack without having to worry about disturbing anyone.

Watching with company can be nice for the shared experience, but watching alone is good for the unencumbered relaxation.
