this line of reasoning doesn't make sense to me: the liberals are the ones who are russophobic, not the leftists.

leftist are neutral on russia, while the liberals are just as russophobic as the conservatives; targeting the people who are neutral makes little sense.

I wouldn't say we're neutral, we're just opposed to Russia's opposition at least as much as we are Russia.
