Goths are non conformists too. Isn’t shouting “conformist!” the whole joke every time the Goth kids show up in South Park?

I like the South Park breakdown actually. Goths hate the world and just kinda feel and vibe with the suffering; punks hate the world and are screwing “fuck you” at it.

For goths, I think the Smiths. “Meat is Murder,” working sucks, life sucks, I’m going to sing and feel bad about it and maybe kill myself. Get me out of this place! (Hating Morrissey is 100% valid, regardless of one’s opinions on veganism, if this is one’s first encounter with the man.)

Punks, Dead Kennedys. You think your life is bad? Well why don’t you take a “Cambodian Holiday”? Hang out with Pol Pot? Isn’t everything fucked? Let’s break shit. “Don’t forget to pack a wife?” There’s also an element of sexual aggression.

Emos, maybe American Football. The lyrics are less easy to read because they’re fuzzy and personal and emotional. >tfw no gf because I “Never Meant” to say that I just thought of her as a friend. To be “emo” really also needs to also have some math rock-ish elements, because it’s personal and about showing the guitarist’s individual skills somewhat.

Policing subcultures is like trying to hold oobleck though. I’m sure you can find counter examples, but I think this works in broad strokes.

Goth is closer to metal and classical to me, too, artistically. Type O, Evanescence, etc.
