Fighting a culture war because of collective OCD or whatever keeps us from fighting a class war, but nobody's doing it on purpose. That's the weird thing - there's no agenda, just people behaving similarly because of similar fears, motivations and delusions.
I think somebody could probably figure out how to make Asimov's psychohistory a real science.
