Many Indigenous Americans called the continent "turtle Island" or similar in their native languages. We really missed the chance to have a cool local name, rather than the name of some random map maker who'd never even been here.

Also we could have named South America "Hydra" instead, because I mean have you seen the Amazon river? That thing's ridiculous.
