A place to meme about the glorious ROMAN EMPIRE (and Roman Republic, and Roman Kingdom)! Byzantines tolerated! The HRE is not.

RULES:

  1. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, bigotry, etc. The past may be bigoted, but we are not.

  2. Memes must be Rome-related, not just the title. It can be about Rome, or using Roman aesthetics, or both, but the meme itself needs to have Roman themes.

  3. Follow Lemmy.world rules.

Not sure where to start on Roman history?

Explanation: The Emperor Trajan expanded the Roman Empire to its greatest extent - he truly wanted your land in his (Roman) land! 'Imperium sine fine' is a term meaning 'Empire without end', an aspect of imperial ideology that began to become popular during the Principate, in which Rome was not merely Defending Itself Into 3 Continents, but actually and actively destined to rule the world. For the good of those poor, savage barbarians, of course!

Funny enough, most Roman expansion happened under the Republic, which did not have this particular idea in the centerpiece.
