Is there some obstacle to writing them? Special SDK privileges or anything like that? Seems like a good thing to degoogle if possible.
I have no idea but apparently nobody makes dialer apps. What's even more weird is that SMS and contacts apps are way less rare.
Contacts and dialer should maybe be merged. It's nice to be able to call someone and make notes in that person's contact page during the call.
Don't remember seeing contacts and dialer being completely merged. Maybe it's for performance reasons idk.
There is Open Contacts which also acts as a dialer if you want it too. It creates its own database which could be useful if you don't want other apps to have your contacts.
It works fine, I use that or Koler
iirc, out of the box android contacts was also the dialer
We have supercomputers in our phones. They can handle it.
Wrong approach, mister/miss.
please tell me if you find any open source MMS apps (was more relevant pre RCS, but I still want to see how to actually do it)
Fossify Messages and QKSMS/QUIK (unmaintained but has worked well for years)
