Isn’t it convenient how just before an election, all these stories about ‘foreign interference’ and bribes suddenly surface? Almost feels like someone’s trying to distract the public from something bigger going on behind the scenes.

Well, sure. It's quite hard to interfere with an election when there's no election being held. Ergo, it's quite hard to investigate election interference until election interference is actually happening.
