I remember reading this exact article as a kid!

This was back when White Dwarf still showed you how to construct buildings and tanks out of household rubbish. Good times.

I got in during 3e and the Imperial Guard and Cityfight books proudly showed off ways to cheaply kitbash and scratchbuild minis. Some of my favorite images.
