Have you ever seen the bisection/engineering diagram of a steam train? Shits INSANE. That's why I personally love trains :).
Here is a dumbed-down one :).
Oh wow, yeah, the top part is kind of what you'd expect, but the bottom part looks like one of those mad diagrams for supposed perpetuum mobiles, with one part pushing another, which pushes something else, which leads to the first part being pushed again...
If you like that, you might like the Blondihacks Youtube channel, which (among other machinist things) features building a live-steam model locomotive from scratch
