Hi,

My mother-in-law has a decent amount of cash in her house, mostly in 1000 DKK bills.

She is so afraid to take it to the bank because she doesn't know what to say about where she got it. She has just been saving up for years, and there's no illegal way she obtained it.

If we would like to exchange it for Euros or another currency, what is the best way to do that? Can I just walk into a currency kiosk or a bank and exchange 20k or 30k DKK, or is there a limit? Do exchange kiosks accept 1000 DKK bills?

Thank you in advance.

An easy work-around for this problem is to go to a normal danish store and pick up 1 liter of milk. Go to the clerk and pay with 1 thousand kroner note. They will pay you back in smaller notes. A very important part is to go to a different town, so the employees don't recognize you. Do it in at as many stores as possible in as short a time interval as possible. Remember to speak English.
