Hello everyone,

I guess we all have to start somewhere. Here goes...

Welcome to c/xfce

For the first general post to the community, I'd like to welcome all of you to this little corner of the Fediverse. Thanks for showing up.

I'm currently a moderator over at r/xfce on Reddit and started this instance as way for myself to get familiar with the Fediverse and look for possible alternate communities for users of Xfce.

Consider this post a sandbox for people to introduce themselves, test out the functionality, offer tips & suggestions for navigating the Fediverse conventions. I might even be willing to answer some questions; but, I would prefer to just carry on with folks simply discussing Xfce in a new place and ignore me.

By all means post some screenshots of your Xfce desktops in this thread and feel free to use this thread as a way to get more familiar with the platform and get to know one another.

I have no master plans for this instance. There are no plans, from me, to shut down r/xfce. This is a new place, same topic. If you like it here, great. It's up to you to help build and maintain it. If you don't like it, that's fine too. Go to the community/forum you enjoy most and please don't bitch about it here.

I'm new here too, so I am open to suggestions on how to make this a useful place to visit.

For now, the only rules I have for this space are:

  • Keep it Xfce related
  • Be polite & respectful of one another

I've also created a similar space over at https://fedia.io/m/xfce if you are curious about how that platform works

August marks the fourth month of development for Xubuntu 24.10, “Oracular Oriole.” With the arrival of many Xfce 4.19 components, our next release is beginning to take shape. Let’s look at how things are progressing in this month’s Xubuntu development update.

The article, for some reason, links to the goodies.xfce.org site which has been deprecated since 2019. The correct, current link for Thunar plugin documentation is https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/start#thunar_plugins Enjoy!

Hi there!

I've setup a kali-linux xfce desktop (via Windows10 wsl2 + win-kex package) and to get it looking crisp I set it up so that Windows doesn't apply any scaling to it, but rather make XFCE do that itself. (see also: https://www.reddit.com/r/Kalilinux/comments/14iicps/winkex_windows10_highdpi_setup/ )

I'm mostly happy with how that turned out, but now those two applications look much too tiny:

  • LibreOffice
  • unison-gtk

How can I get XFCE to apply high-DPI scaling to those too?

Xfce 4.18 released (lemmy.world)

Dec 15, 2022

"After almost two years of work, we are happy to announce the release of Xfce 4.18 !

Since Xfce 4.16 a lot of major development happened. Our team added multiple nice new features, did a gazillion of bug fixes and did various minor improvements. Finally, all that is going to be released for your pleasure."

This development cycle was influenced a lot by GSoC 2021 and GSoC 2022, which led to various new features, most of them for Thunar, the Xfce File Manager. Though as well multiple other Xfce components got a lot of love and many improvements were done under the hood.

Assuming you have installed Xfce 4.16, here is an overview on the major changes you will see on an upgrade to Xfce 4.18:

https://www.xfce.org/about/tour418

A detailed overview of the changes between Xfce 4.16 and Xfce 4.18 releases can be found on the following page:

https://www.xfce.org/download/changelogs

This release can be downloaded either as a set of individual packages or as a single fat tarball including all these individual versions:

https://archive.xfce.org/xfce/4.18

Best regards, The Xfce development team

I've been pleasantly surprised by the amount of media coverage, this week, on the release of Xfce 4.18. I've put together a quick collection of the links that I have seen so far.

Added:

4.18.x+ Bugfix/Updates:
