Massive pro-Palestine protests have been organised on a regular basis, activists have targeted arms manufacturers, and dozens of student-led Gaza solidarity encampments popped up on university campuses across the country since the war began.

Electorally, two major Muslim and Arab-led initiatives have emerged out of the response to the war.Though these groups appear to be aligned and are often seen as interchangeable, the groups are quite distinct.

The first group, Abandon Harris (formerly Abandon Biden), has vowed to do everything in its power to get voters to turn away from Harris and the Democratic Party for its continued support for the war on Gaza.

The other group, the Uncommitted movement, began by urging voters to choose "uncommitted" during the Democratic primary cycle as a protest vote against US President Joe Biden. Since Harris replaced Biden for the Democratic ticket, the movement has called for an arms embargo on Israel but is maintaining its support for the Democrats despite not winning any of the concessions it has asked for.

In an interview with Alaraby TV, Professor Cornel West, who is running for US president as a third-party candidate in 2024, described the ongoing situation in Gaza as "the greatest and most important moral test in the world today".

This statement was made during a demonstration in solidarity with Gaza, held on the sidelines of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

He stated that any individual with a minimal sense of ethics should recognise the magnitude of this catastrophe and advocate for intervention to stop it.

Photojournalist Josh Pacheco recalled a hectic scene after a swarm of Chicago police officers ordered a crowd of protesters and journalists to disperse from a march in front of the Israeli Consulate on Tuesday.

“Nobody understood the dispersal order, nobody knew exactly where to go,” Pacheco told The Intercept, adding that they had been walking away, trying to leave the area with other journalists. “And that is when I was arrested, I was pulled off of the sidewalk.”

During their arrest, Pacheco, who was carrying their photography equipment with media credentials hanging around their neck, said they had identified themself as a journalist to officers. But Pacheco said an officer responded by snatching away their credentials.

“I did alert them that I was press,” Pacheco recalled. “It was very visible that I had my press pass.”

“The journalists were charged … for simply doing their jobs as reporters,” Baron said in an emailed statement. “We are disappointed that the City of Chicago chose to sweep the First Amendment under the rug with its heavy-handed tactics against working journalists.”

Uncommitted delegates have been staging a sit-in outside the Democratic National Convention hall after being informed last night that a Palestinian American would not get be given a speaking slot in the event.

In response, a number of progressive lawmakers and officials, as well the United Auto Workers, have called on the Harris campaign and DNC officials to reverse the decision.

Several progressive lawmakers have issued public statements of support for a Palestinian speaker on the final night of the convention, including Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.; Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.; Summer Lee, D-Pa.; Delia Ramirez, D-Ill.; Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.; Greg Casar, D-Tex.; Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.; and Maxwell Frost, D-Fla.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson also endorsed the idea today, as did Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison — who was the first Muslim elected to Congress before running for his current job — and actors and activists Mandy Patinkin and Mark Ruffalo.

“We’re not here to cause trouble, nobody is trying to sneak in or anything. We won delegates. We negotiated with the campaign. We did everything we were supposed to and we can't even get a symbolic gesture," Georgia state Rep. Ruwa Romman, a Palestinian American who was one the proposed speakers, said through tears Wednesday night.

Political News and Conservative Analysis About Congress, the President, and the Federal Government at the DNC on Wednesday night focused on touting Harris’s candidacy as a campaign of “real freedom,” and he called Trump “a man with no guardrails” and claimed the former president wants to “take away our rights and freedoms.”

Trump, in an early Thursday post on Truth Social, called Shapiro “highly overrated” and claimed Harris “will do even less” for Israel than President Joe Biden and that Israel “is in BIG trouble.

“Yet Shapiro, for strictly political reasons, refused to acknowledge that I am the best friend that Israel, and the Jewish people, ever had. I have done more for Israel than any President, and frankly, I have done more for Israel than any person, and it’s not even close. Shapiro has done nothing for Israel, and never will. Comrade Kamala Harris, the Radical Left Marxist who stole the nomination from Crooked Joe, will do even less. Israel is in BIG trouble!” Trump added.
