I’m going to be updating this because I’m currently typing it on mobile, so bear with any lack of info or spelling mistakes.

What is this place?

Dartboard Links is a piece of the federated internet. That means while we are our own website with our own rules, we can connect with other federated communities to access their content (cross post, comment, upvote etc.)

There aren’t a lot of posts here - how can I see remote communities?

We are still growing. Lemmy as a whole is still growing too, but there are definitely more active communities we can tap into. To see some of the existing connections, try the “All” tab on your main feed. This will show you content from remote communities even if you aren’t a member.

You can also subscribe to remote communities if you know their community addresses. This usually takes the form of [email protected] - Take an address like that and plug it into our search bar on this website, and it will try to pull in the remote community as a result. Then, you can directly subscribe to that community and start seeing results appearing in your “subscribed” feed.

how can I find remote communities to subscribe to?

Try this: https://browse.feddit.de/

Am I allowed to created new communities here?

Currently yes, and you will become the default mod of that new community. I may lock that down in the future and do it by request only but I’m not worried about that at the moment.

Today is the first day of Reddit adjusting cost and restricting API access, meaning many third party apps shut down. I had a few new users sign up overnight. Let me know if you have any questions.

Lemmy v0.18.0 (links.dartboard.social)
submitted 1 year ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

We are upgraded to the latest and greatest after some head scratching errors. But I got it done. Thanks to the help in the matrix chat for instance admins.

So if anyone is searching for an answer later and happens across this message, here is how I fixed lemmy-ansible v0.18.0 upgrade from v0.17.4 if you get weird pictrs and lemmy-ui errors:

  1. follow poVoq's advice and ensure your pictrs folder is owned by user and group 991 (run "chown -R 991:991 /lemmy/your.instance.tld/volumes/pictrs")

  2. The pictrs database will migrate from v0.3 to 0.4, so give it 10 min and then reboot once or twice :) Seriously I did nothing else to fix my remaining errors. Quirky as all hell

Saw this post on Beehaw suggesting posting images with some blind accessibility in the comments since they don't have the capability to directly post them with alt-text yet. Seems like a nice idea, especially with the /r/blind community migrating to reddit, so we might as well spread it to all the instances we can. Cheers!

In case anyone sees this, we've been having some process hanging the server that lemmy runs on (Ubuntu 22.10). I'm going to try migrating things over to Debian. If things work out I'll point the domain over to the new VM when all is ready.

Downtime 6/11 (links.dartboard.social)

Sorry for the mid-day downtime. Turns out we ran out of storage and I didn't realize we were getting close. For now I've 2.5x'd our storage and I'll keep a better eye on it going forward.

Sorry if anyone signed up recently and did not get any kind of email confirmation when I approved your account. Or, if you tried to do a pwd reset. It's rectified now.

A cold and at some points rainy night but the show was a lot of fun.
