Had to share with somebody lol.

Mostly just doing old ps1 games for now. Gotta say i'm incredibly impressed with how out of the box things just work. I had to do a couple extra driver installs (steam controller) but it even had those right in the advanced menu.

I will say something i've noticed is that every now and then emulationstation just hangs and i can't get anything to respond in any way on controller or keyboard. have to yank power when it happens. Looks like last entry in messages pre-reboot is about the steam controller though so i may just blame that and switch it out.

Hilariously figuring out conversion of gameshark cheats to retroarchs PCSX-ReARMed was harder than everything else combined.

Finally had to just manually find one of the values i cared about to see what was missing (apparently all the xenogears cheats use 'cheat##_address_bit_position = "255"' instead of 0, who knew...)

not sure if @eadmaster is on lemmy too but i nabbed their script from an older reddit post that pointed at https://github.com/eadmaster/dotfiles/blob/main/bin/chtnative2retroarch.py and added a couple line change for bit position which got it all sorted.

Hi all, I’m currently the only mod here and I’ve sadly had to be less active given sizable real life responsibilities. So posting here to see if anyone is up for assisting in mod management? It's still pretty small right now so it might not be super necessary, but I'm seeing some deleted and flagged posts so it seems like a good time as any to step in and reach out, at least for the future.

I want to build a couch setup for retropie on a Raspberry Pi 4

Any suggestions for good wireless controllers?

Wondering how people set up hotkeys for simple controllers like an SNES-style controller? Pretty much all guides say to use Select, but some games require the use of Select (e.g. Donkey Kong Country for switching characters, Super Mario World for exiting a level). Is there a way to use a combination of buttons as a hotkey? Or a secondary controller/keyboard for accessing the RetroArch menu from within an emulator?

Hey all, last week i was messing with my old rpi i had laying around. I had a couple of failed manual installs, before i realized there was just an image of retropie on the installer, and used it...

I messed around, installing some other things from the command line, that I read about on other dummy guides.

Well, i played a bit, and my saves for Metroid are borked... And the game has hotkeyed saves loads etc that are tied to reteoarch... I have a simple Buffalo SNES controller... So i dont have spare keys on it to rebind them to, and cannot completely unbind them even with a keyboard.

My question is, is retroarch part of the retropie install, or is it something i installed in the chaos of crap i did after my initial install? Can i uninstall it completely, or just reflash retropie? I have seen all of the losta regarding resetting the hotkey for the shortcuts... None of it seems to work, at least with this controller. Im supremely frustrated. I spent an hour or two assing with it last night... Configuring shortcuts from inside the game, without a rom loaded, and could not get any satisfaction.

Im pretty rudderless here, and obviously clueless about the inner workings of these things. So appreciate any advice.
