Хорошо, с правильным клиентом, думаю, форматом kbin/lemmy более удобно пользоваться именно для микроблогов

а то ру-групп какой-то не видно особо

Hello world. I'm coming from kbin.social and kbin.run which is both dead now.

33

Trying out Mbin's microblog function for the first time - I'm curious to see if the mention of my Friendica account will federate / show up there in notifications (I haven't been at all successful "communicating" with Friendica from Lemmy, PieFed or Mbin): @[email protected] 👋 I cannot even find or add as contacts my Lemmy/PieFed/Mbin accounts in Friendica 😢

And while I'm at it, let's see if the same thing works with Lemmy: @[email protected] 👋

I'm writing about the Fediverse's "Threadiverse" (yes, I don't like the term either because of Meta, but it is what it is) and interoperability for a future issue of my newsletter The Future is Federated.

Edit / update #1: the mentions of my Friendica and Lemmy accounts didn't federate. Let's see if Mastodon works: @_[email protected]

I joined the group of hosters for Signal-Proxies. PM me for getting the address.

But as the official configuration requires a dedicated server (or public IP) I needed to change it, so I would appreciate it if anyone is willing to test how reliable it is. If it works well, I can make a PullRequest on the repo for the config.

Congratulations to https://niagaranow.com/ for having the one obvious advertisement that's got through my ad-blocker setup so far this year. It's an actual jpeg banner ad that's hosted directly at their own website. Such wholesome web design for 2024. If I ever want to get my chimney repaired in Niagara Falls I'll know where to go.

Do people on #mastodon even see posts from #mbin?

Is there a way to access mastodon posts directly on mbin? I wanted to boost https://social.heise.de/@mho/112830645649445305 but there doesn't seem to be a way to find the post...

Planning a trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp (EBC) is an exciting adventure, and with the right preparation, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you plan your trek:

1. Research and Preparation Understand the Trek: Familiarize yourself with the route, duration, and challenges of the trek. The EBC trek is typically around 12-14 days, including acclimatization days.

Physical Fitness: Ensure you’re in good physical shape. The trek involves long days of walking at high altitudes, so cardiovascular fitness, strength, and endurance are essential.

Best Time to Go: The ideal times are pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (late September to November). These periods offer the best weather and visibility.

2. Permits and Documentation Trekking Permit: Obtain a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card from the Nepal Tourism Board or an authorized trekking agency.

National Park Permit: You’ll need an Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, which can be acquired in Kathmandu or at the entrance to the park.

Visa: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your entry date into Nepal, and get a Nepalese visa if you don’t have one.

3. Itinerary Planning Route: The standard route starts from Lukla. Typical itineraries include stops at Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche before reaching EBC.

Acclimatization: Include acclimatization days in your itinerary. This helps your body adjust to the altitude and reduces the risk of altitude sickness.

4. Travel Logistics Flights to Lukla: Book a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the starting point of the trek. Be prepared for potential delays or cancellations due to weather.

Accommodation: Book your accommodation in Kathmandu and consider reserving a few nights in Lukla. In the Everest region, teahouses provide basic lodging and meals.

Guide and Porter: Consider hiring a guide and/or porter. Guides help with navigation and local insights, while porters carry your gear. Hiring them also supports the local economy.

5. Gear and Packing Clothing: Layered clothing is essential. Pack lightweight, moisture-wicking base layers, insulating layers, and a waterproof outer layer.

Footwear: Sturdy, comfortable trekking boots are crucial. Make sure they’re well broken-in before your trek.

Gear: Bring trekking poles, a good sleeping bag (suitable for cold temperatures), a headlamp, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a first aid kit.

Hydration and Nutrition: Carry water purification tablets or a filter, and pack high-energy snacks. Meals are available at teahouses, but you’ll need to drink plenty of water.

6. Health and Safety Altitude Sickness: Familiarize yourself with symptoms and preventative measures for altitude sickness. Drink plenty of water, ascend slowly, and consult a doctor about medications like Diamox.

Travel Insurance: Obtain travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking, medical emergencies, and evacuation.

7. Cultural Considerations Respect Local Customs: Be mindful of local customs and traditions. Learn a few basic Nepali phrases and be respectful to the local Sherpa community.

Tipping: Tipping is customary for guides and porters. It’s a good practice to budget for this.

8. Pre-Trek Preparation Health Check: Get a physical check-up before the trek, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions.

Training: Engage in regular training that includes hiking, stair climbing, and cardio exercises to prepare your body for the trek.

9. During the Trek Pace Yourself: Maintain a steady pace, listen to your body, and take regular breaks.

Stay Hydrated and Nourished: Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious meals to keep your energy levels up.

Be Flexible: Weather conditions can affect the trek, so be prepared for changes and have a flexible mindset.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your trek to Everest Base Camp is well-prepared and rewarding. Enjoy the breathtaking views and the adventure of a lifetime!

"Sony claims that the values that its programs write to your device's RAM chips are copyrighted works that it has created, and that altering that copyrighted work makes an unauthorized derivative work, which infringes its copyright."

Sometimes one of my crude attempts at parody will be mistaken for sincere. Shamefully unworthy as my attempts at humour may be, at least they're never so distasteful as this prank from Sony which apparently is being taken seriously by the European Court of Justice. Very funny guys, you can knock it off now.

@[email protected] My respect for #Proton is diminished little by the addition of a cryptocurrency wallet, much more by the fact that it supports only one of the worst of those currencies. A ton of CO₂ emissions per three transactions is not acceptable.

I asked a big LLM to name some of today's prominent public intellectuals. It put Henry Kissinger, Francis Fukuyama, and Neil deGrasse Tyson near the top of the list. It mentioned several economists who looked pretty boring at first glance (Yanis Varoufakis did not make the list), and a couple of cheesy pop science writers, before finally getting around to Slavoj Žižek. Immediately after that it descended into pure gibberish.

I hate how US politics spills over into every damn community/magazine wherever you go. Why can't USAmericans just spam their dumb politics on one server dedicated to their politics?
