Well, I am on the journey to find a good privacy respecting Android dialer app which also has the ability to record the calls regardless if it's saved or not. I guess that's a simple enough requirment PS: The device is unrooted.

Meta/Facebook preinstalls an app called Meta Services (previously Facebook services) on a very large percentage of android devices (I've never used one without it) and while they claim it helps updates and synchronisation between different meta apps, it is very suspicious. Why preinstall it on devices of people who will potentialy never use a single meta app?

Go to your app list/app management and show system apps and find anything with the words "meta" or "Facebook" then turn off network access for those apps (if you can) and disable them. (eg. Meta app manager, Meta app installer).

Edit: Looking around I have found several people complaining that this app is using their ram for 10 hours a day even though they don't use anything Meta. That's even more suspicious.

Google, Amazon, Bing extensions have been added to Firedragon browser. These do not show up under "Addons and Themes". I only found them in "about:debugging"

This is a default install, with default settings. It is completely unaltered from what is shipped w/ Garuda. It does seem to be related to search provider settings.

Though Garuda is not a privacy based distro, FireDragon is based on LibreWolf. It seems the Garuda team decided to add these extensions in after the fact. Default Librewolf does not contain these extensions. (or at least the flatpak version I installed to verify didn't)

This may, or may not, directly affect your privacy. I would guess that info is only sent to these providers if they are specifically requested. But it is JUST a guess.

I'm sure this has been done to monetize the distro, provide support, yada yada.

I personally do not care what the reasoning, or whether or not any information is sent to providers. I will be moving away from Garuda ASAFP. If they do this, what else has been done?

If you're self-hosting a private instance that's not secure you'll need to put http:// at the start of the URLs specifically.

I've recently learned that DDG does not follow its own guidelines for privacy. I'm curious what search engines people here would recommend. I would prefer a search engine that not only respects my privacy but also doesn't hide or shadow ban content it doesn't like. Any recommendations?

Hello everyone. I am still learning about the fediverse.

I wanted to create a Mastadon account, and I see many different options for servers. I couldn't necessarily search which servers value privacy like this community does, so I am hoping you can inform me what servers DO offer that mindset.

And finally, do you just trust that they follow this, or is there a way to verify?

It seems like, from my understanding, my information will be stored by someone else, somewhere, in hopes it's protected.

I'll go first with an example below.

What are y'all opinions as to what to self-host (on a computer, instance, or local computer) vs what is better to pay for through subscription or purchase?

The goal is to increase

Hello,

Like many people, I have many files (text, pictures, ...) on my Android smartphone; Files I don't want to lose. I could use Google Drive or similar software to have a copy of files in the cloud in case my smartphone is destroyed/lost/stolen, but files would be stored unencrypted server-side, so we don't want that. I'm looking for an E2EE solution to have a copy of the files in my phone on some cloud.

A common situation : you are on holidays, you only have your phone with you (no computer…). Near the end of the holidays, you break/lose your phone (or your backpack with your computer and phone is stolen). If your files are not synced/backed up in some cloud, you lose all your more recent files (including holidays pictures).

I searched for solutions, but found nothing good so far.

• I considered Cryptomator for Android, but after 5,5 years the Document Provider API is still not implemented, despite the promises of the developers (they didn't bother with a roadmap for 2023 for Cryptomator, it's half abandoned with only cosmetic/bug fixes updates). There is no support for automation tools neither. So it does not seem appropriate.
• Maybe a local encryption app, combined with a standard cloud sync app, could do the trick, but I have not found an efficient solution yet.

I'd like to know how you solved this problem for yourselves, or if you have any advice. It seems to be a common use case, I think it can be useful to many people.

note: I use Syncthing on a day-to-day basis to sync my files between my devices, but it won't help in these situations.

Pulse Browser is a firefox fork that includes ublock origin, a sidebar, and a minimalist new tab page and nothing else. Its my daily driver and i wish more people knew about it so the developer could get some help
