Out on business for the week and got me a smoking room.

SPC Plum Pudding '19 and States of Virginia by Sutliff.

Brought dedicated cobs, Ukrainian pear wood slut, Nording Compass slut, and Dunhill English.

My Virginia cob is my favorite pipe.

Do you distinguish between expensive and cheap pipes, pipes for working and pipes for relaxing? Are you afraid of potential damage or scratches to your nicer pipes, or are they a tool for a job that can and will show some wear?

I bought a Savinelli 109 a couple months ago. I love the smaller dimensions, the light weight and could clench it the whole day!

The issue I have is packing the pipe. The chimney is 17mm (.7") in diameter and 36mm (1.4") deep. I can never get it to smoke to the bottom, despite relighting all the time, and always toss out a good amount of unburnt tobacco at the end.

What could be the issue? Any tips for packing smaller pipes like this?

Didn't knew before, but Przemysl has a lot of tradition when it comes to pipe smoking. Highly recommend if you ever visit Poland. There's even a small pipe smoking festival early July every year.

Do you have one favourite pipe? Why? Why not? What is the story behind your favourite pipe?

Just loaded up this modified Missouri Meerschaum General for the first time, which I turned into a stubby nosewarmer. Going to work on the buffing a bit more and I'm waiting on a Vermont Freehand stem that will make this even shorter, but it's good to go for a spin now. Smoking some Accountant's Mixture.

Let's break down the topic of tube filters. This is not a topic of what is better or worse, write how you smoke, without relying on the opinions of other people. I will then add this post as a link to the FAQ.

Below is a brief information. There are several types of them:

  • Balsa
  • Activated charcoal
  • Paper
  • Meerschaum -Metal -Adapter
  • Unfiltered

There are several diameters from 3mm to 9 mm, each with its own pros and cons, which I hope to share with my own experience by users of our community.

Has anybody else here ever modded a corncob pipe? Just finished this Missouri Meerschaum General modification; I created a contrast stain by applying dye, sanding, and repeating several times. I then gave it two coats of shellac and buffed it with carnuba wax. I also shortened (albeit only slightly) the bowl and the wood stem before applying a silver ferrule and a forever stem.

The inaugural smoke is going to be C&D Pegasus.

What can you say about kiseru? Judging by the size, this is for a quick smoke break.

Hi. What is your favorite pipe shape?

(@[email protected], let me know if you have a problem with posting links to vendors in here. Since this isn't Reddit, I figure it's fine as long as it isn't for self-promotion, but let me know and I'll remove it and/or just add search terms instead of linking directly.)

I prefer to buy at a brick & mortar store so I can support local businesses, but I haven't found one with much selection locally (yet). I'm in the metro Detroit area (Michigan, USA), and there is a local chain called "Wild Bill's Tobacco" that has a few Ashton blends that I like, but their selection is only around 10 blends total, half of which are bulk.

SmokingPipes.com has a very large selection, and I have already put in my second order there. I'm finding that I'm partial to Virgina blends, but it's still early days on my pipe journey, so I haven't purchased anything larger than 100g (3.5oz) yet.

Note that they also have a large selection of pipes there. I picked up one by Erik Nording for < $50 that I really like, though you can spend a LOT more. (They have a filter so you can filter out the really high-priced ones.)

What drinks or food do you choose? I can't tell what is my priority. But I like Latakia and Island Whiskey. Virginia is good with tea or Dr. Pepper.

Somehow life has led me to the point of sitting here smoking some Nightcap and watching Joy of Painting reruns.
