Hi y'all,

I have an elderly lady living next door and she doesn't really seem to have anyone checking on her (I have never seen anyone coming to hers) apart from me and my partner every once in a while (usually she will pop by asking if we need anything and vice versa).

I'm a little bit paranoid about what would happen if she fell/collapsed in her apartment and couldn't call for help. It doesn't help that there is a dog living with her (I'm not gonna paint the picture, but I'm sure you heard the stories...).

I want to suggest to her to have some sort of SOS button that she could carry around the flat and, if something happens, she could press it to call for help.

I found this on aliexpress but it has it's own proprietary android app that I don't think would work on my GrapheneOS phone. Local, non-aliexpress options are pretty expensive and/or are subscription based.

Do you know of any alternative that wouldn't break a bank and would have more open source friendly system in place?

EDIT: I was thinking about a cheap wireless door bell (she would have the button - door bell would be in our flat). The problem is when we are away from home.

Perhaps a door bell with simple phone push notifications (my partner has a regular android phone so she could receive those)? Any product suggestions?

Does anyone know any open source FPS still maintained? I know some like Unvanquished and Xonotic and they are ok but I would like to know some others, if they exist.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Hello Lemmiverse,

I'd like some suggestions for an open source software that I can use for managing some information about a community - to manage the member information and coordinate its activities.

A couple of my friends are planning to start an alumni association for our high school batch mates. I am looking for an open source software that I can use to manage contact information, events, announcements etc. Ideally I would like the following features:

  • A self serve portal - individual members should be able to update their information (contact info, location, bio, professional experience, etc) - highest priority
  • Send announcements via email
  • Track upcoming events (least priority)

I realize there might not be a single tool that can do all of these, so I'm open to multiple suggestion.

I've found Mobilizon, but it seems to lack the option where members can categorically provide additional information about themselves.

No, I don't mean Tetris, I mean this kind of classic arcade games.

At least in Discover (Plasma package manager GUI) I didn't find any similar game, only Tetris clones.

Thank you.

In February, we were delighted by the incredible reception to the release of our open-source multiplayer-first runtime, garnering over three thousand stars on GitHub to date. Now, we're excited to introduce the next chapter for us: the Ambient platform!

The Ambient platform makes it possible to build and deploy high-performance games and 3D applications to the web, powered by Rust, WASM, WebGPU and WebTransport. It's designed from the ground up to make multiplayer games easy - your games can run on the web without users having to download or install anything, and we take care of provisioning servers for you.

That's not all, though: our modular architecture lets us build modding into the core of the Ambient experience, unlocking a new possibility - your community can develop your game with you! Anyone can contribute improvements to your game by building and testing them as mods, and you can easily try them out and make them a permanent part of your game.

Watch the launch video below, or keep reading to learn more about the technical details.

A friend is helping to develop a learning platform for incarcerated people, which will run on android tablets. They're still in the planning phase and the friend mentioned that they were looking into how they could restrict access to some tablet features (ex. camera, internet, certain apps) as these are hard requirements. Apparently there are some services (ex. AirDroid) that can help with that management.

Are there any open source tools or services that are easy enough to use? Even if the tablets can't be manged quite the same way, are there any apps that can simplify the process?

Is this legit?

Why no f/neo/play store download? How to verify I'm not downloading something evil, the size alone (188mb) makes it look suspicious.

Also, wasn't there another, unofficial app before?

I basically made this program to convert Lemmy comments to videos just like those Reddit videos on YouTube. I know that there are a few bugs here and there, I will fix them later. For now, the most obvious one is the transition effect video not showing up during transitions, only the audio does. There also might be issues when you run it, I didn't test if it works when the github version gets cloned so tell me if something is wrong, thanks. I also just got it to work as I wanted even though there are improvements I could make if it weren't 10pm for me. I will do the improvements when I have the time, for now, take this one as a alpha version.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

Edit: Sorry about the previous error, made the program remove the .gitkeep files beforehand as they break the program

Edit 2: Added a config.json for easy configuration. I also made a quick project blog page explaining how it works: https://asudox.dev/projects/lemmyctts

I work with a non-profit that supports open source software tools, and we are working on developing a concept of a membership-based organization for supporting those tools. The basic idea is that people could donate $x per month towards a central pool and could then vote on how to spend that money with their vote weight being determined by their total amount of donations over time. We've had a number of people express interest in participating.

I'm aware of DAOs as a concept, but since most people will want to donate with fiat currency, I think they will create more of a headache than a help for this particular situation.

What we need is a software for tracking our list of active members and how many donations they've made over time. What software(s) would you suggest to do this? I know this could be done in Google sheets, LibreOffice, or Airtable or something similar, but I'm hoping there is something more closely tailored to what we're doing and if possible OSS.

We have several things we need to do. In an ideal world one software or platform would do it all but I'm guessing we'll have to use multiple tools:

  • Maintain a list of all members and how much they have donated over time to get their vote weight.
  • Assign vote weight to members based on their total donations over time (or a specific number we put into this tool) and invite them to vote on things with web link that collects their vote and maybe shows them results. It would be really nice if we could have something where we could create multiple things to be voted on, adjust our vote weights on each poll, and then invite all the members to vote in one click.

So I want te find the most feature rich smartwatch that doesn't send data to the manufacure. I have tried the Pinetime watch, but it died after 6 months.

Infinitytime (OS) was not realy that feature rish, so I want to secrufise an Open Source watch OS. But I still want to connect it with Open Source software, like gadged bridge.

What is my best option under €200? Maybe the Xioami Mi band 7 (€50) that is supported by gadgedbrigde?

I've recently changed phone and the model I had before this had a toggle to activate Silent mode at a fixed time. The new phone has only an option to activate the "Do not disturb" mode, but I'd like to have one for the silent mode

Hello 👋, Just came across this project, and saw the app being advertised as open source, like on this page where it's advertised as "100% open source". Looking at the app repo though, the licensing...

I want an android app which can:

  1. Count the hours the screen has been on.

  2. Tell which app received how much screen time.

  3. Make graphs with the available data.
