The Burnmaster is no available from their site, along with a MBC3 gbc cart and a 32MB GBA cart. The carts themselves looks like a decent value assuming they work with other writers but the flasher looks a little over priced to me since you have to purchase the case and buttons separately (total $30). The GBxCart RW seems like a better value unless portability and use without a computer a required.

Moving some of my more interesting posts over from reddit. This is a Super Gameboy with a crystal mod and link Port added. I found this pcb, which is either a recreation or upload of this one. Following the steps there I was able to figure out the resistors and diodes to buy and the pins to use. The resistors on the board are marked as 220 and there is a germanium diode.

I'm building soft mbc5 flashcarts. These games are willing donors to the cause.

I had a really hard time capturing the colors right here for the buttons and the minute hand. In real life, they're much closer than they look here. The GBA has a Funnyplaying IPS, and the watch is a HEAVILY modded Seiko SKX. Honestly, the only things original are the case, crown tube, and bezel at this point.

My Virtual Boy Pocket. Black OEM front shell, red OEM back shell. Glass lens from Bluish Squirrel. It's a red led backlight mod, biverted. I used a 4 position switch and some resistors for 3 levels of brightness and off. Next to it is a BennVenn El Cheapo that my wife was kind enough to make a label for to match the scheme.

The action of the buttons is fantastic on this. However, the red backlight will sear your retinas out if you play too long. A couple of games of Tetris, and the whole world looks green for a while. I think it just adds to the Virtual Boy experience.

I got an atomic purple gameboy color when I was a child along with six games.

In 2015 I found it back in a box and that got me into collecting consoles, games and into modding for few years.

I haven't bought anything regarding gameboy in a while (due prices being crazy mostly 🫤) but though of sharing again to get interesting discussions going on.

What is your favourite console for playing?

For me at home I've used a lot the backlited gameboy advance as it's quite good ergonomic-wise. For commuting I've played usually fire emblem in the GBA SP and the tetris in the pokemon mini, super good ones and battery lasts a lot! 😎

I play most of my games on the train to work. What are some good games for playing in short bursts? Recently beat Pokemon Red, and lately I've been playing some classic Tetris.

These IPS kits make the old gamboys so much more enjoyable. When you get tired of green, just change it to purple or white.

Hey all! I've seen confusion about how labels should look for GBA cartridges, so I've decided to show at least one example from each region I own and write the differences between them. Unfortunately, I do not have a normal Japanese cartridge ready so they are absent from this comparison.

Super Mario Advance is a Brazilian cartridge. The Incredibles is an American cartridge. Tony Hawk's Underground 2 is an European cartridge.

American cartridges will contain an ESRB age rating in the corner, a serial number ending in USA, and a number indented directly through the label into the plastic - it's hard to see in most photos, but it's there if you look in person or zoom in.

Brazilian cartridges are similar to American, but their ESRB rating equivalent is in Portuguese. Curiously... They lack the indented numbers and have no serial printed into the label, but they come with an ID sticker attached to the back and a sticker containing the same ID inside the cartridge, so you can verify both the label and PCB match.

European cartridges do not have an ESRB rating, their serial numbers will end with specific local codes (like UK) and they will have a C E logo. They also have the indented numbers to identify original stamps.

So good signs your cartridge is a fake is: it lacks the indented number but it isn't a Brazilian cartridge. It mixes and matches the C E logo, ESRB rating or serial number from a different region.

While replacement batteries are easily found on Amazon and AliExpress, capacity tests by community members such as Makho figured out their true capacities are so low that sometimes they last less than an old, deteriorated, original battery. With the increased usage of battery draining cartridges such as flashcards, the situation is even more dire.

However, one can use an old Nintendo battery and a new modern lithium ion pack to substantially increase the battery duration by making a custom one. In fact, this one advertised itself as a 900mAh battery and actually delivers 920mAh - making it substantially better than the real Nintendo provided batteries from back in the day, lasting surprisingly long.

While far from the quality of the first party shell, the aftermarket NES shell actually went through a revision and is much improved over the first one - you can differentiate the two if attempting to buy one by the rubber pads that cover the screws, the old version uses shiny silver while the new one uses matte grey. The new one fits better and is got better feeling plastics.
