Embrace Federation! The current most active community for cfb is https://fanaticus.social/c/cfb This magazine will be maintained mostly as a backup and a guidepost for new Kbinners, but new posts will be moderated normally. [MY TEAM] is better than [YOUR TEAM] and [MY RIVAL] is horrible!

I just found out that the Duke’s Mayo Bowl will be hosting UNC vs West Virginia. In related news, the arena’s burger stands have all announced that the only condiment served during the game will be mustard.

We're trying to make this "federation" thing work as intended, and moderation and administration are more responsive on the dedicated sports instance. The poll is active (you likely see the cross-posts), the header image gets updated, news stories and SEC shorts get linked, and game threads are posted with regularity, with the most visible ones chugging along with commenters updating a dozen times or more per quarter.

It's like a little slice of the old country for those of us trying to keep our engagement primarily on the Fediverse. Come on over and help us build it into something that's big enough to become unique and unwieldy!

The ACC presidents and chancellors met on Friday morning and voted to add three new schools -- Stanford, Cal and SMU, sources told ESPN. It will bring the league to 18 members, 17 of which will play football full time in the league.

The Big 12 bumped its membership to 16 teams beginning in 2024-25 after unanimously voting in Utah and Arizona State and welcoming Arizona.

IRVING, TX (July 27, 2023) – The following statement was released today by the Big 12 Conference, through its Commissioner Brett Yormark, regarding the University of Colorado: "They're back."

So, as of July 2023 we've got about 183 subscribers here on kbin.social, and probably another 50 scattered across the fediverse.

lemmy.world/c/cfb (KBin.social link) is not some juggernaut, but they're at over 600 subs on their home instance, and probably another 100ish elsewhere? I will move my daily posting over there for, at least for a while.

Fanaticus.social is a thing now, too, but I think for now, while scraping /r/cfb is good for content to skim though, it's maybe less good for fostering discussion.

Caleb is not the problem. The 4th quarter "tackling" from USC in that Championship game was some of the saddest I have ever seen. I was embarrassed for them, and I wanted Utah to win.

How about I post a link about actual football games this time?

Rice and Northwestern catching strays... invisible golden plates. Nicely done.

Lawyers Say They Have Added Third Plaintiff Against Northwestern in Hazing Case: Oh I don't think we're done here.

CU chancellor Phil DiStefano: Buffs’ goal is to remain member of Pac-12, expects media rights update Thursday: In contrast, could this one almost be... done?

SAN DIEGO STATE TE CLAIMS TEAM WAS TOLD A YEAR AGO AZTECS WOULD JOIN THE PAC-12: I am appalled, sir, that a college football coach would blow smoke up a players ass while recruiting him. APPALLED!

Retraction demand by Georgia over report of abuses involving football team leads to substantial corrections: Now look here, at this university we only condone irresponsible and lethal levels of speeding! ... Still, I can acknowledge it's absolutely fair to push back on reporting that goes to far. The AJC did seem to get high on its own supply after the speeding stories got so much traction.

"Multiple reports claim new bidders have emerged for the Pac-12."

Of course I have a girlfr... err media partner. You don't know them. They live in Canada.

SDSU: "Whelp, gave it a shot." Also, makes a very nasty page about Kliavkoff in their secret "Mean Girls" style burn-book.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey called for a national standard for name, image and likeness, saying "only Congress can fully address the challenges facing college athletics."

Dude also said he hasn't met a single athlete who would like to be an employee... Pressing X to doubt for that one, or at least that he's not meeting the same athletes who are pitting collectives against each other and transferring three times.

More power to them, by the way; if we have to break the old CFB as a "game" to rebuild it in a way where athletes can better their situations while their time-sensitive skills are in demand, then so be it.

Not a ton of deep historical context here, but some fun factoids. Or, in the case of LSU, Ole Miss, and Mizzou, "fun" factoids.

Tennessee fined more than $8 million for over 200 infractions in football program: A wellness check has been called in for Missouri.

Big 12 Media Days 2023: Kansas State keeps 'underdog' mindset in quest to repeat as conference champions: Heck of a purple team, and returns more production than the other purple team, but the Cats are not leaving for the SEC, so they can't possibly be the preseason favorite.

Big 12 football coaches mixed on impact of new NCAA clock rules to speed up games (PAYWALL): If you're not a subscriber, some are mildly annoyed, but mostly they don't give a shit.

2023 SEC Media Days: Storylines to watch during the four-day circus in Nashville: If everyone would kindly ignore the passed-out alligator in the corner, that would be great, okay?

Notre Dame QB Sam Hartman is making necklace from surgically-removed rib, plans to wear it at games: Well, that's certainly a different direction than Jalon Daniels took.

Eww.

The B12 will expand as soon as it finally gaslights the 4 corners into blowing up the PAC...

And I'm strangely okay with that.

"The Big 12 takes new members UCF and Houston to court to determine which institution gets sole custody of outer space."
