A place for lovers of audio fiction of all sorts to gather for discussions, recommendations, and general geekery about listening to great works of fiction. Come talk about #AudioDrama, #FictionPodcast, #RadioPlay, #RadioTheater (or #RadioTheatre) content. Heck, even #AudioBooks if that's your thing.

I mostly listen to horror/thriller series, so I'm looking for some lighter shows for before bed (working through Batman: The Audio Adventures right now). I'd prefer dramatized/full cast shows that don't get too complicated, with medium- to short-length episodes. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I started this magazine to test of the capabilities of /kbin, and to gauge the general interest amongst citizens of the Fediverse to discuss audio fiction. While the jury is still out on the latter, the former was a rousing success.

So much that I've spun up a dedicated /kbin instance exclusively for Audio Fiction topics. It's called Hot Audio Fiction, and I'm confident it'll one day live up to its hashtag: #HotAF. ๐Ÿ˜…

We just launched today with a small number of magazines. Clearly, I want that to grow, so I'm inviting you, the 210 people who've subscribed to this single "test" magazine to migrate to or make an account on https://hotaudiofiction.social and jump in.

Create your own magazines if that sounds like fun! That's what'll help keep the community healthy and fed.

And reach out to me with any challenges and/or concerns. I'm learning as I go, but have a couple of friends with solid tech pedigrees and experience maintaining fediverse instances to help out in all the places where I'm little to no help.

#HotAF is ready for you! (I think!)

Also, I'll likely spin this magazine down in the coming weeks/months as we shift folks over there.

Cheers!

E.

I read in @Podnews about Bradley Cooper's movie production companyโ€”Lea Picturesโ€”teaming up with iHeart for a slate of new podcasts. Quoting from the press release:

โ€œOur shows will feature real people telling real stories, and we knew iHeart was the perfect partner to reach as many people as possible. I look forward to dreaming up more extraordinary stories together.โ€

You, too, likely see the disconnect between the first sentence and the last sentence. Regardless, their efforts do seemโ€”for now, at leastโ€”to be focused on creating new "talk" shows or docuseries. Which is fine.

But why not put their efforts into "dreaming up more extraordinary stories" and making those into podcast fiction? (Spoiler: it's money)

Thoughts?

I'm always on the lookout for fantastic audio fiction shows that wrapped a season or the whole series in the Before Times. Lots of attention is cast on new shows, but there are some golden gems from way back when that more people need to know about.

Got a favorite? Perhaps one you worked on? Tell me about it! I'd love to share it with the world in The End, the weekly newsletter that shines a light back on audio fiction shows after they've reached the finale of a season or the conclusion of the series.
