  1. Install the Userscripts extension for Safari, open the app and go through the setup as instructed by the app. Don't forget to activate the extension for Safari.
  2. After fully setting up the Userscripts extension, go to the TwitchAdSolutions git repo and click on userscript next to video-swap-new. You can play around with vaft as well, but video-swap-new works way better on iOS in my experience. This script replaces ads with a lower resolution stream.
  3. Install the script by opening the Userscripts extension in Safari while the script you opened in step 2 is the active tab and clicking the Install button.
  4. Go to twitch.tv and enjoy your ad-free experience.

Optional:

  • When you have the Twitch App installed, Safari displays the annoying "open in App" Bar on top of the website. This also leaks into Fullscreen Mode. To get rid of it, uninstall the Twitch App and optionally install another extension to remove those Bars altogether, like Unsmartifier.
  • Want 7TV/BTTV/FFZ features like Emotes or a customizable Twitch Experience? Install the FFZ userscript, reload twitch.tv and configure your experience and/or install Add-ons like 7TV Emotes by clicking the new icon top right.

Here is my iPad Home Screen layout. Sure, it’s not super fancy with tinted colors, but, I like it

I highlighted what I might have wanted to carry over to a more professional rewrite. (If the filename was real, I'd sanitize it so as not to single out any one employee, but I do think it's an effective example.)

Using these powerful tools

~~is lazy, unprofessional, and~~ could result in a catastrophically expensive, embarrassing mistake

if someone's not careful :)

OK, this is kinda funny. I wanted to make sure I'd actually seen this in WWDC. Turns out they showed a different rewrite (embedded below):

I think I see what happened. The [macOS] rewrite shown is more 1:1, but comes out sounding goofy (very LLM). On their site, they didn't want to show that, but then they used an [iOS] rewrite that missed e.g. the filename used as an example. Even someone skimming the email should see that filename was garbage and be afraid of getting called out in a meeting for typing a name like that in the future, so I think it's a miss not to have it.

Not to make a mountain out of a small example or two, but I do hope folks are aware they'd do best to read every word of anything generated for them. Reminds me: I'm excited for that word-by-word suggestion feature as it allows for one-by-one modifications to be very intentionally made.

Subhead: It only works for macOS 15 guests on macOS 15 hosts, but it’s a big improvement.

But up until now, you haven’t been able to sign into iCloud using macOS on a VM. This made the feature less useful for developers or users hoping to test iCloud features in macOS, or whose apps rely on some kind of syncing with iCloud, or people who just wanted easy access to their iCloud data from within a VM.

This limitation is going away in macOS 15 Sequoia, according to developer documentation that Apple released yesterday. As long as your host operating system is macOS 15 or newer and your guest operating system is macOS 15 or newer, VMs will now be able to sign into and use iCloud and other Apple ID-related services just as they would when running directly on the hardware.

Well, this is good news that makes me happy. I know a number of devs will be appreciative of this, even in its limited present-form. Presumably, we just need the march of time for older OSes to be supported (starting now with 15 and going forward, I mean – as in, they might not backport, but I don't expect them to take 15 away when they ship 16).

An unannounced feature? I was working on my mac and had turned on the new immersive environment for a quick peek at the new one, and I see my mac keyboard showing through when my hands are near. Nice feature for sure.

Hey folks, there are a few apps in the Android world which I use to watch YouTube without ads. Some examples are ReVanced, NewPipe etc. I was wondering if there is a similar app that I can use to fulfill the same needs such as ad blocking, downloading and viewing on iOS. Figured if anyone knew it'd be on Lemmy. Thanks in advance!

Andrej Karpathy endorses Apple Intelligence

Actually, really liked the Apple Intelligence announcement. It must be a very exciting time at Apple as they layer AI on top of the entire OS. A few of the major themes.

Step 1 Multimodal I/O. Enable text/audio/image/video capability, both read and write. These are the native human APIs, so to speak.

Step 2 Agentic. Allow all parts of the OS and apps to inter-operate via "function calling"; kernel process LLM that can schedule and coordinate work across them given user queries.

Step 3 Frictionless. Fully integrate these features in a highly frictionless, fast, "always on", and contextual way. No going around copy pasting information, prompt engineering, or etc. Adapt the UI accordingly.

Step 4 Initiative. Don't perform a task given a prompt, anticipate the prompt, suggest, initiate.

Step 5 Delegation hierarchy. Move as much intelligence as you can on device (Apple Silicon very helpful and well-suited), but allow optional dispatch of work to cloud.

Step 6 Modularity. Allow the OS to access and support an entire and growing ecosystem of LLMs (e.g. ChatGPT announcement).

Step 7 Privacy. <3

We're quickly heading into a world where you can open up your phone and just say stuff. It talks back and it knows you. And it just works. Super exciting and as a user, quite looking forward to it.

This is the worst part about Apple. I support apple at my work but it gets harder and harder to hear my daughters talk about the bullying on text groups.

WTF is wrong with Apple?

I've been a paying user since 2015. This makes me sad, as it's one of my most beloved utilities and this isn't a good look. I'll keep running it without updating until it stops working or I find a replacement that I like. Also:
